Water shoes are a fantastic investment for any traveller to pop in their rucksack. They provide comfort, safety and support for your feet through all kinds of outdoor activities, from days on the beach to navigating slippery rocks near the ocean. The difference between ordinary shoes and water shoes is the level of breathability, offering enough drainage to dry quickly and allow air to circulate around your feet to prevent your skin from getting sore.

Essentially water shoes should be considered to be a second skin that offers you more protection than your barefoot, rather than as a replacement for a shoe – but as with so many accessories, they are definitely geared towards more straight sized people. We can’t keep track of the number of times we’ve tried a pair of water shoes and they’ve instantly started digging into our ankles, right?

We’ve put together a list of our three favourite water shoes that are suitable for people who need a wider fit shoe, to take away the stress of searching for your perfect water shoes.

Crocs Mens Swiftwater

Though the Crocs Mens Swiftwater shoes are advertised as being towards men, they’re certainly a unisex design and ‘mens’ fits are often really useful as they tend to be wider. These Crocs shoes look just like regular trainers, but with hyper breathable mesh which allows appropriate water flow and a strap so that you can adjust this shoe to fit perfectly on your foot.

IceUnicorn Quick Dry Aqua Shoes

IceUnicorn have a fantastic range of water shoes, and these Quick-Dry Aqua Shoes are particularly impressive because they have all of the functions of a water shoe while looking like a regular set of fashionable trainers. There are over 30 colours available, and the lycra fabric means that they are stretchy, comfortable, and even salt-resistant which makes them perfect for the ocean. These water shoes come with an elastic strap on the top, so that you can loosen the shoe to accommodate wide feet and also make the shoes more comfortable for people with higher arches in their feet.

IceUnicorn Barefoot Shoes

As well as shoes that look like a trendy set of trainers, IceUnicorn also offers barefoot shoes that make you feel like you are only wearing a pair of socks. The ultra-light stretchy fabric means that you can open the shoes right out to put them on to wide feet without struggle, while the durable sole is perfect for sports like beach volleyball or kayaking, as they offer a fantastic level of grip, This range is unisex, which is fantastic for women with wide feet, as often shoes that are marketed towards women are typically more narrow.
